Hoooooray for football!  Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year – football, fires, delicious food, holiday gatherings – all the things I love.  Last night I celebrated the home opener of the Gamecocks with my friends Bailey, Sarah and Greg – and their two dogs.  The Cocks lost, but we enjoyed a lovely evening of fellowship, food, laughter and just a wee bit of yelling.

We enjoyed a few of my favorite things:  chili, cornbread and chocolate cake squares.  Oh, and alcoholic root beer.

Here are a few of my go-to recipes:

  1.  Spicy Chili

I always use way more jalapenos and hot sauce than called for and I add a Guinness for good measure.

2.  Cornbread

I have been making this recipes for years and it never disappoints.  I like to use more cheese and use jalapenos in place of the chilis to add a bit more spice to it.  You can also get creative and make a meal out of it by adding cooked lean hamburger meat, diced tomatoes and onions.  I change the recipes by adding a layer of cheddar and pepper jack cheese to the top.

3.  The Best Chocolate Cake Ever

My friend, Anna, made this recipe at her birthday party a few weeks ago and I became obsessed.  Add some cute gummy footballs to make it perfect for a gathering of football fans.
